The fact is that Termites are usually very hard to see right up until they have had a considerable impact on a building. At this point, you will be able to easily penetrate affected walls, as it’s not uncommon for Harmful termites to eat wood right until they make contact with the paint.

If you do encounter this, you should seek advice from your recommended pest professional as soon as possible, especially if there has been no documented Termite activity in that area of the house previously. Here is a photo during one of our termite control inspections you can see the termite galleries filling up an entire wall void behind a cabinet.

Aussie Pest Control has been coming to aid to homeowners from Caloundra to Noosa whose homes were greatly affected by termite activities and caused huge destructions.

Although it’s been raining a lot, the rain isn’t the one causing the destruction of Sunshine Coast homes. Termites are the culprits.

Rain invites termites to climb on higher ground on rainy seasons. And since rain washes away the soil around the homes, the termite treatment chemicals are also washed away, causing for the termite activities to rise. Meaning, even termite treated homes are affected by termite invasion.

Older homes are also more prone to termite invasion since the chemical barriers are already degraded. Buderim and Mountain Creek are among the most affected areas within Sunshine Coast.

Most homeowners only discover small affected areas but only to find out that a widespread invasion was already done in other areas of their homes.

Read more about the termite invasion in the Sunshine Coast from this Article and find out what measures can be done to prevent these small pesky attackers from getting into your homes.

Ever walked inside your home to find you have been invaded by ants, opened the pantry to find you are sharing your food with ants, walked around the house and have ants drop on you from the ceiling, if so, don’t panic we can fix the problem for you.

I recently entered a house after they called me saying there was an ant problem throughout the house. They did warn me it was quite bad and I should have a camera with me. I walked into the house and I could not believe what I was seeing, ants through the fridge (it was empty as no-one had lived there for a few months) ants all over the cathedral ceilings, all over the benches and walls. In fact, if I learnt on something I would end up with ants on me. If I wasn’t touching something, they would be falling from the roof onto me.

The Solution

I started with a perimeter treatment using termidor, this was going to be the best option for this case as it is not a repellent so the ants would continue crossing over it for a few days. I then treated the inside using a couple of different techniques, a combination of Powder, Gel and residual spray. This is when I saw the extent of the infestation with ants just erupting in total chaos.

The ant treatment has been successful.

There a quite a few different ways to treat ants and to protect your home from ant invasions. When you call we do not use the one size fits all treatment, we will assess the building and scenario and use the method and chemical that will give the best result for your home.

Types of ant control consist of the following

Gel/solid food source – this is a food source for ants and is relying on the ants feeding on the gel and taking it back to the nest, it is very effective, but with large nests or multiple nests, it can become very expensive
Granules/sand – this method involves putting the product that has the chemical in it, in cracks and over pavers which will keep the ants away or kill the ants when they come in contact with it (not instantly)

Repellent Chemical sprays – this method rellies on creating a full repellent chemical barrier around the house externally and internally, it rellies on the ants not wanting to cross the barrier, when using this method, it is crucial to ensure the barrier is adequate with the correct amount of chemical used for it to be effective.

Non repellent chemical sprays – similar to what was used in the example above, this method allows the ants to cross over the chemical freely and take it back to the nest, once it has taken effect, it may wipe out the entire colony, using this method can be extremely effective on lawns as well.

Don’t let treated timbers fool you into thinking you are safe. I went into a house with 5 foot treated timber poles and a cypress pine frame (termites won’t eat cypress pine), the termites had breached up the side of the treated pole under the subfloor, eating some skirting boards and window frames, and got into the roof with untreated timber pine trusses, they had a field day in the roof eating plenty of the roof timbers. So beware, every home is a potential food source for termites, no matter how well protected you think you are.

Did you know that the female termite is just a breading blob. She can lay up to 2000 eggs per day and can live up to 50 years.

A termite colony can have up to 2 million termites in it.

I recently came across an ants nest in a computer printer, a strange place to live but more common than you would think, our easy to use and tidy ant gel killed the colony with ease.
